Sad news. He also became headmaster of York Minster choir school, I think, and thereafter Chamberlain of York Minster. Known mainly for his set of responses, but he wrote much else besides which I hope will be included in music lists to honour his memory.

Here's the stunning short anthem 'Let him who seeks' by Richard Shephard which we sang as the introit to Sung Eucharist a few weeks ago.Richard Shephard con...

Ages ago, we broadcast a R3 CE consisting mostly of his music. He wrote and thanked the choir, but added that unfortunately he couldn’t listen because he had been busy refereeing a school rugby match! Noble priorities. His responses are one of the best sets.

Another sad fact for the world of Cathedral Music, after the recent death of Lucien Nethsingha. May he rest in peace!

Here is the news, with some tributes from York Minster: https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/191...hard-mbe-died/

Some years ago a CD of the Priory "British Composers Series" was entirely devoted to his music, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...vEHZn6_8Mg-PE0

Thanks for the links. Sad news indeed. I've always enjoyed his music: to my mind his work embodied the best of the Bairstow tradition with always that edge that avoided the saccharine. I hope there will be suitable tributes in the form of broadcasts and further recordings. Time for some 'Never weather'...

Exeter streamed CE today (via Facebook) with their very good, small emergency choir, and included Shephard's responses as a tribute.
