    The 'Amen' competition

I'd no idea this was going on until I heard the end of In Tune this afternoon.

Glad to say the Amen at the end of Lo the Full Final Sacrifice by Finzi won!

Katie Derham talks to composer Tom Donald and guitarist Michael Butten.

(Right at the end of the programme. And as a bonus it was St Paul's with John Scott.)

The Amen at the end of Parsons's 'Ave Maria' takes some beating.

Clearly, I don't spend enougn time on Twitter with the "in" crowd. Pretty sure I could hear Alan Green in the tenors' first phrase. I wonder what else was up for nomination apart from the amen from "Geistliches Leed" (sic)

As much as I adore Finzi (I really do!), that would have been my choice. BTW, John Scott used to do the "amen" from the War Requiem during Lent, I think. Spine-chilling even out of context.

Parsons 'Ave Maria' lost very narrowly to the Brahms in the semi-finals. The other defeated semi-finalist was the final Amen of 'Messiah'.

Many final (third collect) Amens in sets of Versicles and Responses are very impressive: I wonder if any of them were in contention.

Yes, Smith and Rose got a long way.

Can't say I'm surprised the one at the end of the Magnificat (sans Gloria) is fine too, though far simpler.

I suppose a few altos might claim the opening of the Amen of Gardiner's Te Lucis as their favourite ....and more than a few, their least favourite.

It can sound majestic or hooty depending on who’s singing!

The one from Tallis’s Gaude gloriosa is quite good.
