Completely unrelated post here, except that St Paul's is involved and I think we're still in Epiphany.

On the Hyperion CD, Epiphany at St Paul's, there is a wonderful piece by Judith Bingham called 'Epiphany'. I wish it were done more often.
I think you can download the track for £0.60 if that's the sort of thing you do! (I don't.)

The Bingham is also on a Signum Disc, which might be found on a streaming site (its on Naxos Music Library). (Sounds competently performed, but its not the right time for me to give it a chance. I’ll listen another time, again).

That Elgar Te Deum is quite a piece, isn't it? Does anyone know more about it?

It was originally written for chorus and orchestra, not organ, and first sung at the Three Choirs Festival at Hereford in 1897. If I remember right, the copy carries a dedication to George Robertson Sinclair (the 'GRS' of the Enigma Variations), then organist at Hereford.

There is also a companion Benedictus.

I recall singing the Te Deum at St. George's Chapel, Windsor long ago! I long for a top notch cathedral choir to record these works with orchestra (the Benedictus is very beautiful) - I'm thinking of that wonderful recording (ARGO) David Hill did with The Bournemouth Syphony Orchestra, Winchester Cathedral Choir and the Waynflete singers. I fear those days are gone... well they never were here, really (the cost!). The setup David Hill had at Winchester was ideal. I can only hope.
