You don't strike me as muddled, Ardcarp, and these Smiths - William of Durham and Father (Bernhard) Smith (or Schmidt) the organ builder - assuredly furnish plenty of scope for confusion.

I'd just mention that the retiring senior lay clerk at Exeter was a much-loved figure who had also sung there as a chorister...and thus had a very long connection to the cathedral.
The outgoing Punctator was a great man in more ways than one. It was so sad that his leaving service and celebrations were curtailed due to the pandemic. The neighbouring Lay Vicars to the west had planned to join in. However, we were able to entertain him and his fellows in the Ale House following a joint Truro-Exeter Evensong in Oct 2019 - a lovely man, who is much missed from the scene.

Energy, adventure, and so good to hear all in such cracking, joyous form. And boys giving it the real, real charge too.
Hear hear. As an ex chorister of this choir I found it an utter delight to listen to, not to say somewhat emotional.
