There is nothing new about this either, and even (or perhaps especially!) some of the best-known establishments are "complicit". Some people still don't seem to know that "Carols from King's" is always filmed about two weeks before Christmas Eve (whereas the Radio 4 Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is indeed live), and that "Easter at King's" is also typically filmed at the same time, months in advance. Nothing wrong with that, of course!

Your arguments Q are a no brainier to me. It’s very clear that it’s prudent to make more than one programme at an institution when the kit and personnel are in position. The important thing is that these are new programmes.

The KCC kids get sung off their feet in pursuing the ambitious recording etc schedule. Hmm.

I’m sure if DOMs thought it was too much they would look at the schedule very carefully. The various documentaries about KCC have indicated the boys thrive on the pressure.

In the (not very long) period when there were two different CEs broadcast on Radio 3 each week, Wednesday would usually be live and Friday a recording. Typically choirs would sing two evensongs for the BBC when they visited, one going out live and the other recorded for a future Friday broadcast.

Wonderful!! Arthur never told me that bit, but the tale sounds truly Arthurian.
