From the Cathedral of the Sea to the People's Cathedral, ending with stella maris
What a glorious sound today - great to hear a full-bloodied St Paul's, but probably the cause for cutting the psalms down to two sadly.

IMHO this must rank as one of best sung CEs of recent memory. The singing was absolutely thrilling in all respects. Heaven was stormed and entered at the end of the Magnificat, but then again after the Nunc. The whole could have stopped there for me, so exhilarating was the effect. But no, more amazing singing with an utterly confidant and dynamic performance of Christus Vincit - beautiful top line with surely Hannah D-W singing the solo with fearless conviction and panache? Fantastic! A full rich sound from the choir beautifully caught by superb engineering which allowed detail to be heard, but with the full cathedral resonance to ring out. Barn storming descant to the hymn crowned a thrilling sing. Terrific organ piece ended a very satisfying service. Thank you everyone. Trebles all round.

          Chacun a son gout.
Near-on unashamed operatic top line and pretty relentlessly dominant too, some pretty slow tempi in canticles.

YES, delighted live CE was offered - OF COURSE. But..........and MacMillan not my taste so I'll shut up about all that.

It’s been said ‘if you’ve got it flaunt it’ and if you’ve got a top line like Guildford has at the moment then that’s what you unashamedly do!

Not to my taste, either the music or the singing, but I am glad to have had the chance to hear it, and to be reminded that there are still good things happening in this bad old world.

I’ve just caught up with this broadcast. What a fabulous and uplifting service: great repertoire (I didn’t know the Aston but shall make a point of checking it out), glorious Howells, and the very moving and profound MacMillan, all musically and passionately sung, played, and directed.

This would have been a considerable achievement in ‘normal’ times, but to have delivered this service with such aplomb after so much disruption to the regular rhythm of rehearsals and services is an astonishing feat. Brilliant! Many congratulations to all involved. JP.
