Directly apposite the National Portrait Gallery, as a matter of fact.

Is this actually happening today? Following on from a piece sung by the Exon Singers just a few minutes ago on Breakfast Georgia said that CE this afternoon was a recording of an evensong by them, but that's not what's showing on the R3 schedule.

Hmm, it's possible the presenter was following a previous schedule. St Martin's website gives nothing away. I am going to assume it's going ahead and tune in.

Have checked various relevant sites, and can find nothing to suggest that what is posted above has been changed.
But, needless to say, that does not necessarily mean that ......etc ...etc....etc!!

And, according to the Choral Evensong site - and you may or may not be excited to learn this - we are in the midst of FIVE CEs all scheduled to be taking place from St M-in-t-Fields.

But that's including the repeats isn't it? In which case the total tally, if all goes to plan will be 8. I know from previous exchanges that you aren't too pleased with blanket St M-i t F coverage, but let's hope they all go ahead without problems so that the seed has been sown for the possibility of more live CEs, and from that an opening for non-London venues.
I see that this week Ben Giddens moves up from Assistant Organist to Organist.

So how can e,g, Hereford regularly produce services, e,g, Drome regularly stream services, and e.g. how many others, and the BBC can do London about five minutes from BH, and nowhere else?

Is this The Archers all over again?

...............and, oh yes, nearly forgot.....reminder@ 3.30 p.m. today.

It's the Beeb innit. Just be thankful the broadcasts haven't (yet) fallen victim to the current epidemic of untendered contracts. Serco outsourcing the work at 3 stages removed to a haulage company that went bust 6 months previously would cause more problems than we've yet experienced...

I read that too, it was one reason for my choice of example.

I think the point to remember here is that quite a lot of effort has gone into making St Martin's a 'bio-secure' environment, to use the current jargon, and it would, I imagine, be prohibitive in terms of both time and money to apply this to more than one venue. As those of you who follow the sport will be aware, only two venues are being used for all the Test cricket taking place this summer, for exactly this reason.

But these webcasts are being produced IN-HOUSE by the relevant cathedrals etc. The BBC need not be involved.
                            I receive Hereford webcasts regularly.
                            SO...............
Why cannot the BBC investigate other churches / cathedrals who do the same and thus give a more encouragingly varied account of the musical / religious life of the nation?

My point was that if you want live services, then they will be restricted to a small number of venues, quite possibly one. If you want a variety of venues, then they will have to be archive recordings. Very few places will be in a position to supply the BBC with recordings of services, because they don't record things as a matter of course. As their website says, Hereford began recording services towards the end of 2015, but nowhere else has been doing that, to the best of my knowledge.
