He was scheduled to lead a choral workshop at St Thomas Fifth Avenue back in April, before COVID saw to that, so he obviously hadn't planned to disappear after leaving Westminster.

I'm no expert on the C of E senior structure, but a quick google suggests that there are 108 Bishops - of which I'd call only the 42 diocesan ones "proper" Bishops. (Please feel free to correct my figures, it was only a quick glance).

Plenty of scope therefore for a grand cull, before we start on the cathedral choirs.

Still, I shall be amazed to see the day where a single Bishop position is dispensed with. Do we even actually need a Dean AND a Bishop in each place?

Stephen Trott says what is required is "a radical pruning of Bishops, dioceses, and their staff from the current 42 dioceses to something more like the historical 26 dioceses, and with, perhaps, 40 bishops to ordain and confirm, in place of the current 117 engaged in many activities that we now see are not required." Of course, cutting the number of dioceses would suggest the need for fewer cathedrals - though that didn't happen recently.

Fewer cathedrals? Not necessarily. The Diocese of Leeds has just as many cathedrals as it had prior to combining three dioceses into one.

Sadly no recommendations about the choir, other than issuing an apology to former choristers and their parents. And a mysterious reference to 'interventions [concerning] the regulation of online activity by the Music Department', a vague slur which apparently was very expensive and led to closing the Cathedral Choir down.

Even the saner cathedral ‘closes’ can be quite Trollopian: Slopes in our midst! Trollope’s publisher, William Longman, at first turned down Barchester Towers, finding much of it to be full of "vulgarity and exaggeration" - what would he have made of Sheffield, Westminster Cathedral and other Christian establishments today?! I gather from their facebook page that Steel City Choristers, the new incarnation of the disbanded Sheffield Cathedral choir, have recently been accorded charitable status 'for sharing cathedral music around the city.' Congratulations to all.

Just wondering - I take that to mean they are the choristers previously at the Cathedral.

To rule out the possibility it is a new set up/chorister group at the Cathedral that rebrands music under the new name.
