Today's Sunday Worship - not at all bad!

I thought I would provide an alternative thread from a non-purist...

The Revd Lucy Winkett, Rector of St James’s Church, Piccadilly, and composer Bob Chilcott explore the power of music to speak into troubled times.
I wouldn't has listened had it not been for the other critical thread. I thought it to be intelligently written and earnestly presented, and worth a listen (with the aid of the 20-second fast-forward button if preferred).

And I found nothing wrong with the version of Nimrod. It was just different.

    So there!

    No offence taken....

There is one very high note for the sopranos which, with choirs composed of ordinary mortals, always ends up being a very painful moment for me as a listener. More likely to be OK if its one of the professional ensembles etc.

BTW I also detest Agnus Dei (Barber Adagio f. Strings arrangement) and inevitably there is a Lark Ascending arrangement (no doubt more than one) prevalent as well. Elgar, Vaughan Williams and no doubt Barber wrote excellent or good choral music. Why vocalise an instrumental major work?
I won't say more, other than.....I take ear plugs to choral concerts (as well as cinema (trailers)) these days and I'm thinking about noise cancelling earphones. Choral directors can programme them. I can decide whether to hear them.

    However each to their own.

p.s. - as to the programme. The Tallis is a perfect jewel and it was most affecting to hear it. As was the Purcell - a work my children consistently sang, with success in Youth Choir competitions and in concert.
