    St John -Tolz-Concentus-Harnoncourt

If it's not too late to listen to another Passion, I'm re-posting this suggestion made by Miles Coverdale under the St Matthew thread.
It is pretty wonderful...though interesting to hear how 'HIPP' has moved on a bit since 1985 ! In particular there is a rather spectacular alto soloist (aged around 13 perhaps?) Above all, there's Kurt Equiluz, possibly one of the best evangelists of his time.

...and talking of tenors, Thomas Moser (arias) was pretty darn good too.

The soloist in 'Es ist vollbracht' is Panito Iconomou (his father was Greek). There is an interesting interview with him here, where he mentions that Equiluz was one his earliest influences. This performace of the St John is also mentioned, more in part two, where he describes his singing of the aria as the highlight of his career with Tolz.
