There is a Bach Cantata every morning on Breakfast before 7am.
So far we've had:
Monday Collegiun Vocale Gent/BWV23
Tuesday Amsterdam Baroque/BWV159
(Can't find info about the rest of the week.)
On Good Friday we get both (major) Passions:
2pm Afternoon Concert/St John/BBCNOW with John Butt
7pm Berlin Phil/St Matthew/Rattle
I guess the reason for the early start with the cantatas is the BBC's idea that a complete work threatens the short excerpt/easy listening philosophy of Radio 3 mornings.
As for two Passions on one day...well rather the opposite! Luckily we can choose what and when we listen to anything. I must say it would have been more interesting to have one of the Passions done by a small specialist Baroque group. John Butt is usually associated with that genre, so it will be interesting to see how BBCNOW and Chorus match up to his ideas.
