    Clare College - Arvo Part

Part's Ave Maria from Clare's latest CD was played on Record Review this morning, just before a repeated () BAL. It was recorded in a very resonant acoustic, and somewhat distantly, but to great effect. I guess it was probably done in Ely Cathedral's Lady Chapel, but don't know for sure.

    It began at around 9.25am.

Can't find a Latin Ave Maria on the Arvo Part Centre work-list which runs to 2019. Could it have been the 1990 Bogorditse Djevo for a cappella mixed choir?
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

I thought it was The Woman with the Alabaster Box.

Apologies everyone. It was The Woman with the Alabaster Box.

Bogorditse Djevo is the text (with minor differences) of Ave Maria.

Confusion arose because I was in a state mixed emotions...joy at hearing Clare and outrage at the BAL to come!

To clarify, yes the CD was recorded in Ely's Lady Chapel and no, it doesn't include Bogorditse Djevo.

I'm afraid that huge resonance put me off. Sung Ely, loved it, but..but....
Sops v. good, but basses IMO bit too young / light to make much of the Part resonance needed.

            From the booklet note:

"Recorded in The Lady Chapel of Ely Cathedral, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom (March 2018) and All Hallow’s Church, Gospel Oak, London, United Kingdom (July 2018)"

              Thanks Jayne.

              And from Draco...

I agree, not exactly the Russian Orthodox sound. But I still enjoyed it.
