For my sins, which are not exclusively extra-musical, I sing with a small group of choristers of mixed-ability, & amongst whom I register at the lower end of the scale in terms of sight-reading. Our music director is looking for a modern setting of the canticles which could be rehearsed in an hour or so before evensong. Any suggestions ?
Advice sought -- modern canticles (not too difficult) for unacc. small choir (8-12)

I haven't come across all that many unaccompanied canticle settings of any period; most of the ones I've done are Tudor. A very recent attempt to fill this gap is the Short Service by James MacMillan, first performed last year. for which accompaniment is optional. Described as 'A concise and accessible setting for general use which will be seized upon by church and school choirs of intermediate standard.'

I don't know how 'modern' it needs to be Mclintick, but staying on the Truro theme, there's a nice simple and tuneful Mag and Nunc in D major by John Winter, sometime assistant organist at Truro. It's the sort of thing that could be knocked into shape by a choir of moderate ability in a pretty short time. I think it's available from Banks Publications. It has organ accompaniment.
And you may be able to spot the front page among this lot, which will give some idea of the easy-going style:
