I can see why having to work at the direction of the 'Charter for Sacred Music in the Mission of the Cathedral' might be a bit of a downer, especially if they are weasel words.

Usually if St Paul's have temporary financial problems they go to the City for help.

The problem is the future. It has always been very dangerous for St Paul's or Westminster Abbey to rely almost solely on tourist income. It's always going to be dodgy on a long term basis to have all your eggs in one basket like this.

Without income producing endowments or a large local regular congregation to provide a reliable substantial income their financial support for the choral foundations will always be at risk.
