I am afraid that we should at least show some respect to those who recently passed away. It is one thing whether the present-day KCC is over-rated, it is another thing how much contribution Sir Stephen had made both inside and outside the World of English Church Music, at least for a person from the far east like me.

I have to say that I find these comments - on a public forum - ill-judged and insensitive beyond belief, and show little regard for the feelings of Sir Stephen’s widow and family in their bereavement after his long illness. It is not a sin to hold such views, but it is a gross discourtesy to air them in public at this time. Judging from the large number of tributes which have appeared on social media from his former choristers and choral scholars of many decades, together with those from musicians who have worked with or known him, he was held in high affection for the man he was, and for the influence he had on their lives. I, too, count myself as someone who has benefited in my musical work from his kindness.

Reminder: THIS is the CE now for today @ 3.30, and not the one on listings published in newspapers etc.

In these financially straitened times, I'm sure the BBC will not let a recording of Choral Evensong go to waste and that it will appear in the near future.
