    The wealth of the College flows into other places than the DoM's salary: for example greater subsidies for choir tours and recordings, funds being found for organ rebuilds, accommodation and so on. And very importantly, wealthier Colleges attract a wider pool of student applicants to choose from (I'm writing as the parent of a current Caian here). I expect that Caius wanted to put the resignation of the previous DoM quickly behind them by offering a generous package to attract the best candidates.

      Yes you’re right . After TootSweet’s post I looked at the job advert and when you look at the total package it looks like a top gig if I can put it like that . It’s also full time . There’s a current ad for a DoM at St Peters Oxon which is 0.4 which would then leave the post holder trying to combine other work .

        I think the organ there is certainly due some work. 1970’s Klais put in by last DOM but one
