Being the sole survivor in the choir since this service went out live, may I welcome Truro's first 'archive' broadcast, and hope that listeners will enjoy it. It's unfortunate that budget cuts have reduced the number of live CEs, but there will be one from here next year.

The American organist Dale Adelmann was at St John's, Cambridge with Andrew Nethsingha, and towards the close of his beautiful arrangement of Steal Away can be heard the tenor voice of local legend Peter Hulme (38 years in the choir and Senior Lay Vicar at the time) emerging from the choral texture. We were about to take the piece on tour to the American east coast.

Assistant Organist Simon Morley has for many years been enjoying the lifestyle of an organist in Tampa, Florida.

A splendid and dignified CE (and before the days of the travelogue).
Steal Away is a wonderful tune and has been much arranged, not least of course by Tippett.
I was a little puzzled by the key chosen by Mr Adelmann (B flat?) which meant that the 'tune' either had to be sung very low down or very high up. Presumably that's the sound he wanted. But it was good to hear the trebles giving it some low-down wellie and the solo tenor in helden register!

A richly enjoyable experience. Interesting to hear AN moulding the psalms in an emotional, expressive way which has been expanded at St John’s. A distant sound balance enhanced the shaping of the music in the service in a calm, devotional way which is balm to the soul in these troubled times.
