I wonder if they'll be recording this service in advance, to avoid the possibility of any local disturbances on the day affecting their ability to do a live transmission.
Not knowing Portsmouth at all, I have no idea how insulated the building might be from any external noise.

V.interesting. I put up LIVE, but...yes, I can see the logic of what you say.

In that case the Beeb is being a bit naughty, as the website simply says "From Portsmouth Cathedral, marking the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings."

Logistically, it would make sense to both choir and BBC?
'Noises off' in Portsmouth on Wednesday next are likely to be ...erm......intrusive perhaps?

I am surprised to realise it is 15 years since Portsmouth Choir travelled to Caen and sang Evening Prayer in the Abbatiale Saint-Étienne. I was employed at Caen and attended, although I do not now recall if it was on the 5th June. It was an emotional service, ending with the Fugue sur le nom de Jehan Alain which in that context moved me, and others, to tears. Time is flying more quickly than I thought.

I assume from the remarks here that there are special commemorations planned in Portsmouth. The choir could have repeated their visit.

The announcer on Radio 3 after the end of the St David's broadcast also described the Portsmouth broadcast as a recording.

Well, last Sunday must have been one heck of a session if they had to sing live for CE last Sunday and then record today's CE - both testing, and frankly, the lads sounded a bit out-faced now and again. Material testing, and nowhere to hide.

A glance at the cathedral website will tell you that what we heard today was the one service of CE that took place in Portsmouth cathedral last Sunday afternoon!

                            ?

Presumably the first CE mean Choral Eucharist (Sunday Worship) and the other Choral Evensong?
(No wonder visitors to The Choir get confused!)

and very good it was too! Particularly enjoyed the Gowers, and the very stirring rendition of the final hymn!
