I felt I needed a calendar instead of a watch.

The chaplain of Rugby School (R4 Sunday Worship) has just informed us in his sermon that as Christians we can achieve a life of happiness ‘with a cup of tea in one hand and a copy of the Church Times in the other’.

Stanford in C Gloria was again the star of the show; the placing of that final chord with high G at the top is so thrillingly effective. Old boy Richard Lloyd’s View me Lord was very nicely done too. Thank you Rugby School Chapel Choir for those two broadcasts, and let’s have more of these superb school choirs on CE and R4’s SW.

I am generally sermon-phobic; but this one, even for someone on the atheistic wing of agnosticism, was more than just OK..

              Requires great dexterity, that

When you’ve finished reading the newspaper, don’t throw it away. Our throwaway culture is leaving a massive hole in the planet's natural resources.
And the tune ends too soon for us all

With five long verses, the second hymn was the longest there has been for some time on a non-archive broadcast. Some hymns recently have been ridiculously abbreviated.

And the service was all the worse for that - IMO, of course,.
