DW is David Willcocks (King's College Cambridge).

Drome is a reference to Westminster Cathedral; this is from Wiki (I didn't know the provenance!):
The Cathedral is frequently referred to as the 'Drome'. This dates from the early 20th century days when the Lay Clerks were represented by Equity - the trade union for actors and variety artists. In the profession, it was jokingly referred to as 'The Westminster Hippodrome' - a nickname which was later shortened to the 'Drome'.

There have been other requests for ceasing the use of abbreviations, as it can make threads/subforums (and The Choir seems particularly prone, sadly) appear cliquey.
    Hope this helps.

So does that mean from now on we can't write VPO, or LPO, or LSO when noting concerts by orchestras?

        ... Vanadium Phosphorous Oxide?

        .

... some abbreviations have their place.

Some use of language tends to the cliquey, speaking to its own set, excluding others.
I always associate the use of 'Drome' with a pertick'ler kind of smells-and-bells queen....

It's never had any association with the Anglo-Catholic for me. I'd say it was pretty universal parlance among professional church musicians.

All very funny, but in a way it’s a shame to have moved away from the subject of the thread! The service from St John’s was absolutely beautiful. Interesting having King’s next week... a chance to compare the two!
