It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

EK’s voice has that rare quality of being able to combine warmth and purity. There are those that have a pure voice but sing with no real feeling for the lyrics or meaning of the song.

Boys' voices are Syrah - at times - maybe even with an edge of adrenal-producing prosecco - at times.

Girls are malt whisky; boys are grain whisky - unless they are singing in the old-style head-voice technique, in which case they are milk.

Very true. Though it's a mistake to think she uses no vibrato. She often uses it for expressive purposes, but importantly she is able NOT to use it when it's not needed.

The 119-page wine list of Clos Maggiore, one of my recent après-Ring eateries, offers La Romanée DRC 1996 for £23,100 a bottle. Our amazing cathedral girls' choir was established four years ago with scholarships to the value of a mere Richebourg 2008.

(should you wish to pre-order your wines for decanting)
