Is this the first time Choral Evensong has been broadcast from this church?

I can't remember one. But what used to be Croydon Parish Church has always maintained a good musical tradition. I'm not sure, but I think it may have had a close relationship with the RSCM. Maybe others will know more. (I believe Roy Massey, before his elevation to Birmingham then Hereford Cathedrals held the posts of O&C at Croydon concurrently with Warden of the RSCM.)

I am amused that several Parish Churches now refer to themselves as 'Minster', Leeds being another. I suppose the relatively little-known Axminster Parish Church has some reason to style itself 'The Minster' these days, the clue being in the name.

Two churches in my home county are now so designated and I had occasionally wondered why. The general Wiki entry posted by vints mentions the modern/recent ones but didn't give much clue as to why; googling 'why does a church become a Minster?' filled in the gaps through reading what Grimsby, Rotherham and Hull had to say about their change of name. It seems to come down in part to a widening of the sphere of interest and activity beyond that of simply a parish church.

Grimsby is another 'parish church' that has tried to keep up its choral tradition.

Well! I was bowled over by that! Tone, ensemble, tuning all excellent and the spirited, exciting singing was a breath of fresh air. I particularly liked the psalm singing and choice of chants, and aside from a minor slip by the cantor in the opening preces, it was an all-round winner for me!

A slip that appeared not to have any consequences - their "disaster recovery" systems work well! Concur with all you say omega consort.

I was particularly impressed by the psalm singing. Great care and attention to the articulation. A good choice of chants with a contemporary chant for the second part of Psalm 73 written by former Organ Scholar Jack Oades. Complemented the Turle. Also liked the pairing of the Goss and Attwood chants normally associated with other psalms.

...and quite extraordinarlily good (men's and trebles' voices) for a parish church. I was going to say a 'mere' parish church, but Croydon has the advantages of several local schools to draw upon, plus a long tradition of excellence in church music, the latter implying a willingness of clergy+churchwardens to maintain it. I guess too that Ronny Krippner is an inspired leader. I'm glad we had a broadcast from somewhere 'other'. More, please?
