Not complaining in the slightest, as I'm eager to hear from Blackburn and love the Holst, but curious: when a Mag and a Nunc exist as two halves of a set, what might motivate their splitting in a service?

The Holst Numc (which isn’t partnered by a Mag) is a frequent choice after a stand alone Mag. Great piece IMO.

Very good to hear an evensong from one of our "parish church cathedrals" (as we did from Portsmouth a few weeks ago). Very spirited performances from the choir and superb accompaniments on the outstanding Walker organ in a somewhat swimmy acoustic!
I enjoyed reacquainting myself with the Kelly, and would have liked to have heard its companion Nunc rather than the Holst which replaced it.

Greatly enjoyed their rendition of 'Dear Lord and Father', one of my favourite hymns, complete with earthquake, wind and fire from the organ. There is often a tendency for it to drag but this kept moving and each verse was interpreted appropriately. Didn't take to the Holst, perhaps I need to hear it again a couple of times.
Top line sounded quite young to me? - not in terms of competence I hasten to add.

Agree. The psalms were a bit prosaic and samey but my word, everyone came alive in the Mag. Edge of the seat stuff with great attack. Loved the whole service in quite a swimmy acoustic, but despite that the trebles cut through splendidly. I got the impression everyone loved what they were doing and were excited to share it with us.
