Another excellent offering from this young, enthusiastic choir. One is rarely disappointed by the direction of Adrian Lucas & accompanying of Daniel Cook.

Hmm...........understandably, tenors a bit shouty and basses a bit strapped for oomph in something as demanding as the Elgar, but nice psalms, and for me the vol was outstanding.

A tad condescending here DracoM. A very secure musical performance with obviously a lot of work learning the music and ensemble singing achieved in a short time from these young singers with men whose voices are newly broken. I liked the Kelley Intoit, must get a copy. A lovely devotional service. Thank you.

I was surprised that a choir made up of young and maybe on-the-edge voices [ as you say] among the men tried to whack out a v. BIG Elgar piece. I think it exposed the men particularly.

Musical - yes. Wiling and potentially good - yes.

Yes agree, a tough choice the Elgar. Something lighter in texture for an anthem, eg. Rutter, Chilcott or of that ilk?

Is it my imagination or have we had quite a few outings of Elgar on CE in the past year...that one plus 'The Spirit of the Lord' ?

No, yuk, of course not. Elgar is pretty much at the other extreme from them, isn't he?

                  How about:
                  Arvo Part?
                  Judith Bingham?
                  Sally Beamish?
                  James McMillan?

Yes of course but it's a personal choice of the DOM. All of the above and JR and BC! I wouldn't go as far as to call any of them Yuk!
'Give unto the Lord' is fun to sing no matter what age and Elgar revels in word painting. As teenagers we had smirks all round at the repetition of 'strippeth, strippeth'. Can't think why now.

...our source of teenage hilarity was (different piece) anatomical extrapolation from 'noses have they and smell not', etc, etc
