Must be a bit of a nightmare to both mike and relay services from Edington - one or two interesting 'blips' today!
      Liked the Drayton canticles.

Some pretty exposed stuff for those young singers to negotiate.

I do love a good accompanied psalm and today it was fantastic. Robust and melodious. Full of vim and vigour. Just perfect.

Rest of the service left me a little cold. But then I don’t really like music in more than 1 part.

I don't know quite what the technical team thought they were doing, but the broadcast began in glorious mono, the opening remarks of the priest appeared to be coming from a church in the next diocese they were so distant, and it was only during the playover for the first hymn that it occurred to the engineer to widen the stereo image. Then we had two late fade ups of the lessons....

Whilst realising that all this has to be done live, either the producer or the engineer were asleep at the desk (maybe both), and coming on top of last week's catastrophic technical problems for which nothing was done for the entire hour (where was the reserve line back to London one wonders?) it really seems that little trouble is being taken to ensure that things go well.....

Maybe they should "have done with it" and stick to churning out archive broadcasts....

(I did only hear the first half, maybe things got better technically)

A nice piece of Parry ruined by the raucous Harrison voicing.

Didn't sound raucous to me yesterday. Most bizarre. Thrilling would be a better adjective IMHO....

I hope that was tongue-in-cheek. Nowt to beat a live broadcast...and surely it can't be beyond the wit of even a half competent sound engineer to get the basics right, e.g. a mike for the priest? I'd tolerate a few warts for the pleasure of a live broadcast, though not that many warts. I wonder if technology has got a bit too complicated? Maybe a couple of mike, a few metres of cable and a simple mixer in the van outside would suffice? I guess in this case there were 3 choirs sitting in different places...but surely....?

Yes, it was the engineering required to cover - live - three different ensembles in an echoey acoustic + congregation + organ + different ministers delivering words that made think it might be a nightmare to cover, and even more to get right and so easy to get wrong.
