i.e. less a service, more a concert to showcase Genesis Sixteen?

All the elements of Evensong appear to be present, so no more a concert than many other broadcast Evensongs.

Thank you for the correction - I hadn't spotted that.

I expect DracoM was hoping for a sermon.

But I agree with the showcase bit. Recorded with the opportunity to retake any bits that may need sweetening up from the live performance.
It will be interesting to hear how a group of obviously talented young musicians can blend themselves into a choir with this kind of repertoire.

Sounds like BBC Singers on a moderate day maybe, so...........
Have turned off this cynical exploitation.

A classic derogatory response as expected. No suggestion retakes were performed during or after this incredibly genuine act of WORSHIP, not concert. That was 2 days later. You should have gone. There’s a lot to be said for hearing a choir ‘in the flesh’. But you’d have to leave the armchair for that, no doubt.

The women's voices were not to my taste and I found that the balance seemed somewhat off so that they dominated the gents voices, but I have to disagree with the BBCS comparison. Came in 15 mins late, but happy to continue listening.

But if (as you seem to be suggesting, Um) "you needed to be there", why take such exception to a response to the broadcast?

Because if one heard the service/concert it live, one would know what difference, if any, the supposed 'editing' for 'showcasing' purposes would have made, and whether it was worth commenting on at all?

I was referring to the Genesis Sixteen concert the following Saturday. This was a real showcase of talent, which I was lucky enough to attend.

Which I'm very glad to hear - but that concert wasn't what DracoM was criticising in #8.
