Aha! Are they listening to us?
The number of times Forumistas have urged the CE team to look a bit outside the Oxbridge / cathedrals circle.
    Welcome to Rugby School.

Are you sure it is live? The Choral Evensong webpage does not indicate that it is.

The school website gives a recording date of 14th April: https://www.rugbyschool.co.uk/index....ding-for-bbc4/

Another website offers tickets to listen to the recording in the school chapel. This states that the recording was made in April: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats...18-06-27/19:30

        OK, I'm wrong.
Apparently, I usually am. So at least it's predictable..................

I did attend a broadcast CE at Bridlington Priory a few years ago.

Lancing College and then Rugby School—? A coincidence, or is Radio 3 taking its cues from Radio 2?

The BBC Choral Evensong page just says, "From the Chapel of Rugby School'. The weasel word...or rather not word...seems to be 'live'. Surely the BBC could be up front about it and say either 'live' or 'recorded'?

There's a category that broadcasters call 'as live'. Some years ago I did a broadcast of the Radio 4 Sunday morning service from the chapel of Berkeley Castle with the Exultate Singers. In order for us to travel there and broadcast live, we'd have had to have been up very early, so we were allowed to do it 'as live' and record it earlier in the week. There was no indication when it was broadcast that it was a recording. I suppose if an event of sufficient magnitude had occurred in the meantime, the intercessions might have been re-recorded and spliced in. I think this happens quite often with this broadcast.

You will also have noticed that the list for previous and following weeks does say "Live". Absence of this word generally means pre-recorded, but they do sometimes get it wrong and fail to state "Live" when it is live. Checking other sources of information can often clarify the situation.

About time some folks read this IMV

The expression 'live recording' is sometimes used....or 'recorded live at the blankety blank'. I guess it means doing everything in a single take...as Songs of Praise used to be done in the old days...with no patching or editing. Talking of which, was the breakdown at York Minster ever patched up for the i-player?

A brilliant post that tells one nothing and manages to be faintly patronising at the same time.

                            Keep 'em coming MrGG.

Well you have to actually read the chapter (rather than my clumsy version of it)
which talks about what is meant by "live" when people use the word in the context of music

                              It's worth reading IMV
