It is definitely prerecorded, but ‘as live’ with no edits after, as I was at the recording back in April, made then to avoid any interference from the exam season and all the end of term and festival events happening at the moment. Listen out for the psalms in particular. As noted by an earlier poster and as part of the school’s STEAMfest this week, referred to in the broadcast and the reason for the choice of hymn, there will be a playback of the recording in chapel on Wednesday evening accompanied by a Son et Lumière light show.

So why the heck did the BBC page not SAY all this? So easy to do.

                  It's worth reading IMV
Sorry to have sounded testy, it's not your fault that the on-line preview ended just as chapter 2 was due to start!

Came in during the psalms, and they were indeed absolutely electrifying....

What happens when a distinguished former cathedral Director of Music moves to a public school with a long tradition of chapel music...

Inspiring. Really beautifully done, almost lovingly crafted in every aspect.

Lucky (and privileged) boys and girls. More of the same please.

Yes. Could have been an Oxbridge College.

Wow. Just wow. Sounded like a sizeable choir. Was that soloist in the Mendelssohn a boy or a girl? I'm guessing the former, but I'm not entirely sure.

The pictures of the choir at the recording on the twitter feed of Richard Tanner shows that the top line is female, and I think the alto as well. No wonder the Mendelssohn soloist was fantastic as it was Ischia Gooda, the present holder of the BBC Girl Chorister of the year.
Another example of superb psalm singing; straight, clear diction with impeccable a cappella tuning. What variety we’ve had recently in how to interpret psalms from the passion of St John’s, the quirkiness of Christchurch to the purity of diction and harmony of Rugby.
Beautiful service, clearly recorded. I hope Rugby become a fixture on the CE calendar.

I'll add a third wow. Many thanks to Rugby, and congratulations to Ischia Gooda - the Mendelssohn was magnificent.

Ah. Thanks for that, jonfan. Many congratulations to Ischia Gooda, who was superb. Indeed, everyone contributed to a memorable performance of the Mendelssohn that had real drama and colour. I hadn't previously appreciated how fine a tune is Richard Terry's "Highwood" and the Bridge Adagio was gorgeous.

Some of my favourite chants but I didn’t recognise the strong, muscular sounding one for Psalm 129. I don’t think it was listed above.
