It seems that the vacancy, the interview process, those who just missed out are of more interest than the actual appointment - on which there has been very little comment.

I suspect because the appointee is a member of the forum. Those who just missed out are entitled to some privacy, and for a third party to post their identities here would be discourteous. I was standing in the 'University' queue for evensong at King's last weekend. Naturally, the new appointment was a major topic of conversation among those around me, and no one who expressed an opinion was anything other than delighted with it.
As for the sound of the choir, my own view is that this is bound to change over time, and indeed making the choir conform rigidly to a precise 'ideal' sound may be a mistake. I think of another choir in Cambridge which always used to sound exactly the same, regardless of the personnel - some of whom later said that being forced to conform to that sound had been damaging to their voices.Comment

Wonder if the BBC / World Srvice / +other interests the KCC Christmas services are sold to by BBC might be a tad surprised or maybe - perish the thought - less enthusiastic if the sound they've always associated with 'Christmas' and KCC were somehow......altered?

I don't think so. I have a feeling that the service comes under BBC Religion than BBC Music and even if the choral sound were to change that is an artistic matter that would be lost on 99 per cent of the audience . But I could be wrong . I suspect the real concern would be if the BBC were to lose rights as it's an keystone in the Christmas schedules for BBC Two, BBC Four , R4 , R3 and WS . I suspect , though I have no knowledge in detail, , that given its audience the rights are not that expensive. I would have thought that the Beeb is very "enthusiastic " about retaining this very popular perennial . As it is one of the few broadcasters who can guarantee a national radio and tv slot (and global with WS) I would have thought it's pretty secure.Originally posted by DracoM View PostComment
