Possibly. His father, having been the driving force behind the choice of music, may have set that ball rolling. I can well imagine that he has EMT's recordings and is a fan.

It must amaze you Richard that preachers quote the bible at a Christian wedding ceremony.

Or burble on about love at a wedding

Actually Richard, the bible-bashers often have a similar effect on me - but this guy was special, I thought.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

He also quoted Martin Luther King, rather more explicitly!

Not related to music but I thought a divorced person whose ex-partner was still alive could not marry in church and even if the woman’s ex was no longer alive, she was not to wear a white dress. When did this all change?

Not so. To quote the CofE document ‘Marriage in church after divorce’, ‘The Church accepts that, in exceptional circumstances, a divorced person may marry again in church during the lifetime of a former spouse,’ although it would appear to be at the discretion of the vicar concerned. Mind you, I imagine that when groom is the son of the monarch, a certain leniency is exercised.

I wasn't aware that the Church ever legislated on the colour of the bride's dress.

But then, I was also astonished to learn that Ms Markle had been married before (I just did a bit of online research following ds's query) I clearly don't read the right newspapers - or listen to the BBC
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Thank you ferney and Miles. I seem to have been missing some interesting matters and facts relating to this event.

(ed.) just imagine, some people are prepared to go through all this not once but twice!!

I wonder if we can agree that it’s threads like this one which makes the forum so fascinating. Where’s it going next?

On a musical note and almost back on thread Petroc Trelawney played the Spiritual 'There Is a Balm in Gilead ' mentioned in the sermon , in the version by Paul Robeson on Breakfast yesterday . There is an even better version (I think ) from Mahalia Jackson on YouTube . According to Wiki it was she , standing behind Martin Luther King , who prompted the semi - improvised "I have a Dream ... " section of his famous speech by shouting the words "tell them about the dream " . Who says musicians don't make a difference ?

Nothing in canon law about this - a more recent trend in the history of marriage. https://www.marryjim.com/en/page/sho...mplate/history

The spiritual is based on a biblical reference, of course.

I hope the reference didn't make too many people think about the Handmaid's Tale.

(It did sound like bomb to me, but I quickly realised I must be mistaken.)
