What I'd like to see is someone undertaking (as I suggested) to produce all the facts and figures about recorded CEs over the past few months. I am happy to submit them to contradict what I was told by R3 earlier in the week, but my days of carrying out all the research work are over. I'm on the point of retirement
In the end, my suspicion is that we are dealing (as I also said) with the programme having a reduced budget. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Help needed.
I will from now on be putting either an [A] for archived, or [R] for pre-recorded for CEs as played.
Better suggestions from anyone?

If someone wants to do the counting, this webpage lists all broadcasts for the last 10 years: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00...episodes/guide

Are we discussing "Choral Evensong", transmitted on weekdays and from a chapel or cathedral with its semi professional choir or the Sunday evening congregation, with its fervent adherents and sometimes complete with drums, guitars and other more modern forms of social activity?
I enjoy good choral singing and the dedication of those who give up their time to take part.
But my interest ends there.

As I say, I am very much afraid that it might be the result of the programme itself having a cut in its budget. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Well in my case I was first moved to complain - obliquely - here in this thread:
which was the beginning of 2017, so it'll be interesting to see if the valuable research that is being carried out (thank you cmr_for3!) shows any sort of marked decline starting in the autumn of 2016.

Some quick counting on a year by year basis suggests that the number of live broadcasts averaged around 44 per year from 2008 to 2016, dropping to 35 in 2017. Number of archive broadcasts was around 2 per year from 2008 to 2012, increasing to 4 per year from 2013 to 2016, and to 6 in 2017. In 2018 there are 5 archive broadcasts scheduled already up to the end of August. Counting is a bit approximate as I made some assumptions about which were live and which pre-recorded for services from various festivals and summer schools, but this does not affect the number of archive services, which are more clearly indicated.
