    Yes indeed - and pompous. These words are hardly a description of the composer's character, especially as a young man. I think the sin here was that he composed it in his teens. It's her putdown to a teenager. To the extent that the word is close, it might apply to the lengthy sections but the absolute key to Faure in my opinion is his modernism which is unique and underappreciated for being romantic too. She hasn't got that fully. In a sense, his music doesn't require a Rutter as it is naturally Ruttered albeit with more subtlety. Not that I have any problems with Rutter's work as it is influenced by Faure. For example, the first movement of Rutter's Requiem which is virtually a testament to Faure's - so it works in both directions.
