Thanks for the clarification. Over headphones it seemed (at least to me) that some really beauty in the voices was apparent, which was lost wholesale over speakers. If you were able to try a bit on the iplayer via cans it would be interesting to hear your reaction DracoM.

Ah - I can see that's a bit of a drawback to my cunning plan.

Unless they almost shouted, front row almost totally swamped by back row operatics and organ.

Pleasant enough although the sound balance seemed a bit weird to my ears. Just a mild criticism but I find the backrows of St Paul’s produce a sound which borders on the silly. There’s a lot of wide vibrato flying around the place, which makes it all sound a bit like a retirement home for opera singers. I hear bravado there, but less so beauty. The boys are certainly good, as you would expect from a musician and singer as consumate as Mr Carwood

But the boys are having to work so hard in reciprocating the back rows' noise to compete / be heard.
The difference between now and under John Scott is startling.

At times I felt the sound was doing the aural equivalent of the awful camera swoops that certain producers seem to favour. A non echo passage would suddenly morph into aircraft hangar then lunge back to something smaller scale. I found it disconcerting and distracting, and difficult to tell if what I wasn't liking too much about the singing was the result of that or the singers.
The snippet I heard on my car radio on Wednesday(last section of Ascribe) sounded much better than what I heard at home on Sunday......
