Echo all the above comments with spades. Happy Birthday GB for today! There is a binaural feed, with now a complete introit, on iplayer for headphone listeners which sounds great; plus advice on what to listen out for within the cathedral space. I hope this care for listeners is a New Year resolution from CE. I think this is a first binaural for CE or maybe I’ve not noticed before?

Don't think it was announced either?

I think the binaural processing is applied after the event, so it wasn't available live.

Aha! Explains it. Not like BBC to be coy about an improvement?

Agreed, but interesting how it doesn't pick up the H&H (?pedal) action noise which is always evident in the quire. Has it been edited out or just not that close a recording?

I think it must be the latter; I don't see how it could be edited out.

I enjoyed most of all the Sheppard...oh, and the Messiaen. I'm not a great fan of 'blood and guts' canticles, though can understand why maybe they wanted to play safe so early in the term. (I always think of Ps. 22 v.12 in such pieces!)
Shame the opening announcement 'crashed' the start of the introit.
But an enjoyable and trad cathedral evensong. My thanks too.
Just caught the repeat, and would agree (I think the glitch wasn't repeated this afternoon) - solid work but the service really 'took off' with the Sheppard and the Messaien. I remember very clearly the first time I ever heard of Sheppard was from Geraint as we were strolling through college one day in the early '80s!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
