I was a teenage choirboy – so it doesn’t surprise me that their voices changes when girls are around, says freelance writer Tom Usher

Felt like self-evident but pretty commonplace factoids to me. ANYONE involved in choirs with and around young people has known much of this for ever, haven't they?

In my earlier life, if anybody had presented to me a paper based on a small sample from one location, I would not only have returned it to them, I would have returned it to them torn into small pieces.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
