Chichester has a very fine Piper tapestry behind the high altar. Not sure where that leads musically. Bernstein's Chichester Psalms perhaps?

Indeed, as Dean Walter Hussey had a hand in both commissions.

I recall soprano Claire Booth and her pianist Andrew Matthews-Owen performing Myfanwy Piper's first collaboration with Alun Hoddinott, A Contemplation upon Flowers, at the Southbank Centre on St David's Day 2011. First performance of the work in the composer's own piano reduction I believe...? The pianist also devised this excellent Naxos CD which features a Piper cover. I would love to hear these songs again and perhaps some Hoddinott folksongs too?
Hoddinott: Landscapes. Naxos: 8571360. Buy CD or download online. Claire Booth (soprano), Nicky Spence (tenor), Jeremy Huw Williams (baritone), Andrew Matthews-Owen (piano primo) & Michael Pollock (piano secondo)

Myfanwy I believe collaborated with Hoddinott on numerous opera commissions for which JP designed sets.

Programme for the Private Viewing of the John Piper Exhibition at Tate Liverpool
By the Cantata Choir of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral
            Director: James Luxton
            Thursday November 16 2017

            Stubbs My Beloved Spake
            Smith This Place
            Luxton Ave Verum Corpus

Piper designed a series of stained glass windows including the Memorial for Britten and most of the windows of the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, which is home to the Cathedral Cantata Choir. They performed these pieces there recently at a concert to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Cathedral’s opening.

            III. Landscapes
            Purcell Fairest Isle
            Elgar As Torrents in Summer
            Vaughan Williams Linden Lea

Piper was inspired by a wide variety of landscapes and interpreted them in a very personal way

Best of good fortune with that, jean - not a gimme in the whole programme!

                  I was wondering too, jean!
                  Hope it goes well.
The choir I have recently joined here in York was filmed and recorded recently for part of an installation at the art gallery here, opening next month; all good publicity for us, we thought, and we get to go to the gala opening too!

gimme = slang something that's very easy. Golfing term.

Good luck. A very evocative. Interesting collaboration with Alun Hoddinott too, Myfanwy as librettist and J for opera sets. Nice to see the collaboration continues on these young voices and hands today too:

Apropos of nothing (as so many of my posts are ) I recall that Siegfried Karg Elert wrote a set of pieces (for the harmonium?) entitled Cathecral Windows. Another occasion, perhaps?
