Please, DracoM, could you add links to these announcements? It would be very helpful, especially when one is trying to locate them some time after the broadcast.

    Thanks.

Stanford and Wesley are not Wells' usual repertoire, which is mostly Tudor and recent compositions. (I'm sure they will sing their music very well though!)

I don't go a bundle on Wesley in E canticles....but maybe Wells will convert me?

I wonder why we got Justorum Animae instead of Coelos ? Maybe it was felt appropriate to the Manchester situation. I love Coelos, though. It's less often done (a) because it is season-specific and (b) because it's double choir.

                Good treble sound today.

I would put money on that being the reason.

Very decent Finzi - bags of oomph and attack.

A wonderful broadcast - I enjoyed every part of it.

Very interesting to hear that exciting Wells sound that we are so used to, but in perhaps slightly different repertoire than we are accustomed to hearing from them.

Well you should be grateful then that Wells gave us the shorter version - I rather like the longer version of the Nunc Gloria with its word-play sequence upon sequence of world without ends.
Wonderfully languid rubato 'mixing their music' - quite (en)ravish(ing).

The Gloria of the longer version is taken from the rarely sung Jubilate from the service in E. When a student I sang on what we believed was the first ever recording of the entire service, including this Jubilate.

Donald Hunt turned phrases from (mostly) the service in E into a set of Responses, but I haven't heard those in a long time. Perhaps only Worcester did them.

Has the entire service ever been recorded since, either & is your version still available?
I think I might have heard the 'Hunt' responses once.

I haven't heard of any other recording of the Communion setting (admittedly, it's rather dull). I don't think our version is available now - it was only available on cassette and was not widely distributed. The choir in question was that of Christ's College Cambridge. However if you really want to hear it I'm willing to try creating a digital version for you - message me if you want one!
