Good lusty singing, strong solos, highlight for me the Alcock Intro and Passacaglia.
Pity about the axing of the hymn. Maybe an underestimate of how long the psalm was to take?

My hearing is shot to pieces at the moment by a cold, but I enjoyed what I could "make out". Sounded good.

After being so rude about last week's voluntary I concur with DracoM, I'm sure the illuminati will tell us that Alcock couldn't write for a toffee but it made for a reflective introverted dignified but ultimately triumphant end, fitting perfectly with an Evensong of this sort.

Presumably played by the estimable Colin Walsh as well?

I'm not sure he knew how to play one.

Any right thinking Finziite will already have this excellent CD and will have paid for it fully! (You will no doubt have guess(t) that I am somewhat pro-Johnian...)

Apologies Finzi4 but I have followed ER's advice as I only have £1.80 of this month's pocket money left .....

I don't think this broadcast has received anything like the plaudits it deserves.
I do like the Moore set of Responses and they were performed here with real dynamism and verve: so often the V&R are just busked. Not here: they were as key to the service as the canticles and the (aaaaaahhhhhhh) anthem.
Psalm singing and word painting in the very best tradition.
                        Thank you all at Lincoln.

Agreed too, having just heard it on i-player. Great dynamic control and phrasing in the Finzi and, of course superb accompaniment on that organ so eminently suited to that repertoire. The whole choir seemed to settle into everything 'to the manner born' from the Responses onwards. As for our Walter, a fine musician and composer of his day.
