This is a recording of a service.

Intriguingly, trawling the church's 'Music Lists' for some time past - Jan 2015 onwards - I can find no trace of this service on their lists, so perhaps it was recorded some time ago?
The vast majority of the church's musical offering is very familiar, trad Anglican / Episcopal. The choir is both pro and volunteer adult singers.

WOW - Howells's Dallas Service - beautiful, late (the last he wrote, in fact) and great!

      A pretty good performance here:

Nunc Dimittis from the Dallas Service by Herbert Howells (1973). Recorded in Ushaw College Chapel 2007. Sung by the choir of St John's College, Durham. Direc...

But not the Dallas church the canticles were written for?
The liner notes to the Priory recording (The Collegiate Singers, under Andrew Millinger) say that they were commissioned by Larry Palmer, Director of Music at St Luke's Episcopal Church in Dallas (using money from the widow of David Stretch, for a piece in his memory).

Good if another Dallas church has taken them into their repertoire!

Yes, agreed. Fine canticles, and well-performed. They are fairly regular at St T's Fifth Ave as well.

Yes, that's right. Looking at St. Luke's website, although they have a vested adult choir, they don't seem to do Evensong anymore (), so this set seems to have found a home nearby ().

Glad to hear it! Wouldn't a recording of Howells rarities under the present directorship be nice?! I may prod him...

Continuing off topic, but on Howells, the Te Deum he wrote for St Paul's Chapel, Columbia University, was recorded for the first time (again according to liner notes) on this CD from St Thomas NYC, under Gerre Hancock:

The other music on the CD is by Ned Rorem, Leo Sowerby, and Conrad Susa, amongst others.

Ah, yes, I have it - stuff! I am rather obsessed by his music in all its genres.

Were that Columbia still had a choir for its lovely chapel and its Howells commission!

I would drive miles out of my way to avoid Sowerby. Ooo, these are interesting chords, let's build a piece....and make sure it ends with a really long, loud chord. My Room 101 I'm afraid.

Very good diction from the choir, American vowels notwithstanding. I could hear every word.
