The Choir Sunday June 5th 6.30

" Aled Jones takes another tour of the wonders of the choral world, including choirs in UK conservatoires, with his guest the conductor and composer Paul Spicer. "

    ..............it says here. Hmm.

The playlist has an 'eclectic' collection of music - Dyson, Dering, Hewitt-Jones etc.

I'm particularly looking forward to how they define 'conservatoire'. Apparently Selwyn College, Cambridge comes into that category judgin by the first item on the playlist, but no other Oxbridge choir does, neither does e.g. Winchester College despite nurturing fine singers from 8 yrs to 18 who go on to star in many other ensembles, and what about the RNCM? Or York University? or East Anglia?

    Hmm.

They mentioned eight conservatoires - but they haven't said which they are, apart from the RCM and Birmingham. And Scotland.

Paul Spicer, who does a lot of workshops for amateurs too, mentioned - off topic a bit - the sort of imbalance whereby you get 80 sopranos, 120 altos, 7 tenors and 10 basses tirning up.

But this really is nothing new, as he seemed to imply.

Ah. Scotland. That really narrows it down. Just as well I'm not listening to this, as I'd have been throwing things at my radio.

That will have been my fault. I'm sure they were more specific, but I didn't hear.
