The Wills alone was a HUGE sing, and there were plenty of other challenges. Nothing that could be sleptwalk through here!
Real congrats to the soloists, esp the trebles who had every bit of their technique and courage tested.

Not a Rutter fan, I fear, and it felt a bit odd following the complex Wills, but......

That was an impressive CE with some interestingly varied repertoire. They can sing!

Superb evensong, that really was quite something!

I notice on checking back to 2015 that Scott Farrell featured more Wills in the last CE broadcast from the cathedral.

Don't forget DracoM that I was assistant at Ely from 1999-2002 and that place and its traditions leaves quite a mark on one.
Thanks for your kind words earlier on in the thread.

Wasn't meant as any kind of criticism, merely as a matter of archival fact!

I realised that :). I was just reminding any readers of the Ely connection.

It certainly does, as did AWW!
Thanks so much for a truly splendid CE, Scott. I loved the attention to detail in everything, not least in the psalms, and such a powerful performance of Remembrance: the World of Light: the top divisi lines singing so effectively in the lyrical central sections. Hope the piece become better known and thanks to this fine broadcast it just might.

I have at last caught up with this on iPlayer and enjoyed it all very much indeed. All impressively meticulous. Lovely sound from the choir and excellent accompaniments by Mr Norrey. I particularly appreciated the stately speed of the hymn.

In view of the dearth of cathedral broadcasts this winter, I had wondered - after listening to Canterbury live on Wednesday - whether my enjoyment was partly down to scarcity value!

But no, made a point of listening to the rebroadcast just now with as critically-sharpened ears as I could muster, and still managed to enjoy it.

Great chants, I even managed to derive a little pleasure from the Wills (not my favourite composer it has to be said), lovely Bairstow (who is a favourite of mine), and even the Rutter delved deeper than some of his other work.

All rounded off with that dignified and heart-rending Bridge.

                          Well done everyone!!

Thanks mw963 for your kind words. Just thought that I'd politely point out that it wasn't Canterbury, but rather the little brother up the road...Rochester.
