Possibly they do, but I have not heard it. France Musique would not, it has plenty of opportunities to play contemporary music by native composers, and it takes them.

Oh yes indeed, and it's much appreciated by me when they do.

Tomorrow a performance of Gregorian music by the Wiener Hofburgkapelle (not, they say, a service) in the church is advertised. On CD . Joy and Peace to you all.

Lovely. I took one look at the photo and guessed North Somerset. It appears that I was right. Joie et paix to you too!

...just like R3 takes at least some opportunities to ensure the mispronunciation of certain composers' names by retaining the services of certain of its presenters, it would seem...

Early in my participation in this, IMVVHO, wonderful Forum I was accused of being a shill to/for/from the BBC and my views have brought the odd barb since then. It doesn't bother me in the slightest and if it's the price of doing business hereabouts then so be it.
We have witnessed some absolutely glorious huffs ... to what end I have to ask myself?

My thanks to FF and all the moderators ..... should she go she will be sorely missed ......

... these must be among the rarer Saints honoured in our churches. I learn from wiki that St Quiricus is the French Saint Cyr.

This truly is a Forum from which there is much to be learnt

It is, indeed, a "Somerset tower". Well spotted!
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Yes, Saint Cyr he is by a miraculous transformation. Quiricus was a child martyr, of about three or four, but in many places (Locarno, in Switzerland, and, if I remember, nearby Bellinzona), he has become a young soldier.

Our schoolteacher taught us about Quiricus when we were barely much older than he was. How he arrived in rural Somerset, I don't know. Probably the Crusades, as parts of the church are very early.

And thanks to antongould for a lesson on how to deal with forum difficulties .

I believe Capel Curig in North wales is named after the Welsh version of Cyr/Quiricus.

                        .

... those interested in St Quiricus should certainly sample the sweetmeats known as 'calcioni' native to Serra San Quirico in the Marche -

Serra San Quirico, in provincia di Ancona, sorge sulle pendici del Monte Murano ed è cinto da imponenti mura, dominate dalla trecentesca Torre del Cassero
