Well, you are in for a treat then! It's quite exquisite and the harmonic pinnacle of his choral writing (IMHO)... possibly alongside Mater ora filium of course

Is it my imagination or have I heard - several times - the sounds of mouse clicks when the priest's mic is faded up?

Are her script and prayers on a screen I wonder....

I've just yelled "Bravo Simon" at the end of the Reubke, just as someone yelled "Bravo" at the end of John Scott's legendary Proms performance of the piece back in the late seventies.

                Respect sir, respect!

Yes - stunning piece, I love it. I found the singing today rather florid, I didn't appreciate it as much as - for example - the KCC recording under Cleobury.

Fantastic choral and organ contributions in the Coll. Reg. canticles though

And wondrous sound quality via the internet and beamed through the Airport Express to the big Hifi here - the organ just magnificently reproduced (ditto the Reubke voluntary) - can't get over it. Better than any FM signal I've ever received.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

After the technically lamentable sound from Bristol it's good to know Caliban that all isn't lost....

FM is the worst way to listen to Choral Evensong due to the processing, which - thank goodness - is absent from the digital versions of Radio 3. The sound seemed good to me too (via satellite).

My Naim amp and Cabasse speakers seem to revel in what the R3 online feed throws at them these days. The Advent Service from StJCC sounded epic too

Reubke was the highlight for me.
I've now listened to the Bax on youtube a few times - VERY different performances from the undisguoisedly operatic version we had from St P's.

This Worldes Joie was played on Breakfast this morning, sung by The Holst Singers. It is a fine piece, unmistakably English but in no way a crib of Holst, Finzi, RVW or anyone else!
