Ah. When did we last have a broadcast from St Clement Danes? There used to be a regular visit in Martindale Sidwell's time, and I shall never forget an astonishing performance of The Wilderness with (young?) James Bowman as the countertenor.

So this is the Sixteen 'training choir'. Should be good. Love the (Bach influenced) Stanford Mag.

They last broadcast in 1990. The Wilderness broadcast was on 7 September 1988. May I recommend again the wonderful BBC Genome site, a searchable archive of Radio Times listings, from which I've got this information? It runs from 1923 to 2009, but I'm sure this church hasn't broadcast since then. http://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/

Well, I don't know how many men there were in Genesis Sixteen, but I could hardly hear them.
Gowers Vol easily the best thing on show for me.

            Hmm. Underwhelmed - sorry.

According to their website there are ten men out of a total of 22 singers: http://thesixteen.com/genesis-sixtee...-17-announced/

                Thx for info.

Well, I could hardly hear the men in that acoustic. I listened again on different kit to check.
Whether it was the repertoire, the engineering, the environment, I know not. And it was a recording, so presumably it has already been possible to massage it if it was felt necessary.

Shrug. Presumably that's how they wanted it to sound?

I enjoyed the broadcast, all the directors producing a most musical result. The Stanford double choir Mag is possibly a Marmite piece. I think it's terrific and was glad to hear it. Many choirs do not tackle it because it is quite difficult to bring off successfully. Does anyone remember the last time it was aired on CE?

We sang it for Vespers from the Drome in 1998!

Found some of the spoken parts to be very matter-of-fact and almost shouted - perhaps to make up for the lack of male voices in the sung parts!
