      Bit puzzled.
Psalms were sung at what felt like at times something close to breakneck speed.

A handful of fine, mature trebles in amongst the team, particularly with that very characteristic richness of tone Durham seems to encourage, but ensemble just a bit awkward at times. Men in general pretty solid and on the ball.

      Nice organ vol.

I was up at Durham University in the mid 80s, and having struggled up the hill from the History Department on North Bailey, I always made it just in time for Evensong at the Cathedral at 5, quite religiously, before going to High Tea at Castle. Happy times.

I agree that the choir were a little bit hurried, but the choristers are very secure, and the boys are quite wonderful.

I'm probably biased, being a Durham chap, but I think that the choir is one of the best in England.

Pleasant memories of being at Durham late 60's when the Cathedral and Cloisters provided a convenient and delightful shortcut from Palace Green to St Cuthbert's in the South Bailey. I was often able to stop off and taken in Evensong.

At that time, I was spoilt somewhat rotten re church music. Following Durham I did a postgrad year at York and then got a teaching job in Leipzig with easy access to Bach's Thomaskirche.

My Durham memory is from a visit early in 1970, I think, when the organ was out of action.
There was a grand piano instead, with Conrad Eden vamping away wonderfully!

King's Norton is my kind of hymn tune, though probably a bit florid for most congregations. I think I can live without Walmisley in D. As well as the well-known D minor setting, I've come across the one in B flat by him. But I can see why the D minor is far more performed than the other two.
