Presumably they've allowed a nice long slot for the sortie into Bach. One of my fave pieces....so expressive, the Adagio.
(Both the 'anthems' are quite short.)

He appears to have left earlier this year.

And I was about to delete it as perhaps being rather flippant.
I think we used to sing 'sweeter than' rather than 'nicer than'!
Pleased if it raised a smile.

St. Paul appears to be little recognized on this day. What appropriate liturgical music is there?

Bits of Mendelssohn 'Paulus'. I think there's a Palestrina motet, 'Magnus Sanctus Paulus' (I may well have my cases wrong there), and I think a setting of the same text by Lukaswewski. 'Saul, was verfolgst du mich' by Schutz is very fine but not really an Evensong piece...

Byrd - Hodie Simon Petrus. (note the text below)

Hodie Simon Petrus ascendit crucis patibulum, alleluia.
Hodie clavicularius regni gaudens migravit ad Christum.
Hodie Paulus apostolus, lumen orbis terrae, inclinato capite pro Christi nomine, martyrio coronatus est, alleluia.

thank you Caussade and Nevilevelis. He ought to have a separate day. Presumably the Eastern churches make more of him.

Well, 25 January is the Feast of the Conversion of St Paul, so he isn't that hard done by.

                            ..and it needs trombones IIRC.

But to the broadcast today. I thought there was some lovely singing and sensitive, musical direction. Thanks, Sheffield.
