        That "certain sort of amateur choir" deserves to be encouraged, but as their quality is likely to be variable, perhaps BBC national radio listeners might expect a higher standard - which is where I came in, with the example of a non-professional choir that is the equal of (and maybe in some instances better than) singing groups who do get paid.
