As predicted, the new children's programme on Sundays, 5.00-5.30, could only mean that The Choir would now be reduced to one hour from 1 May. At least the texts and tweets should disappear (?) since Sundays, from lunchtime onwards (until Breakfast on Monday morning), are to be pre-recorded.

I should be bothered...but I'm not! In fact a children's programme is a very good idea, depending on how it's done, of course....not talking down to them, I hope, or trying to be cool.

Many of us will remember with awe Pied Piper. For me a model in how to do children's Radio.

Well........that and 'Regional Round'. Anyone remember? And 'Counterspy' and oh yes........David Davies intoning 'The Wolves are running' in the ancient radio adaptation of 'The Box of Delights'? Scared the pants off me but compulsive listening.

Well, the first change is that the presenter knows something about classical music - while the Blue Peter and CBBC presenters on Making Tracks seemed (to me) to be bored when they had to include a classical piece, and made little effort to find out about it. They were out of their depth, but put on the theme from The Simpsons and their enthusiasm was awakened.

One comment I had from a listener who had read the first details was that it sounded a bit difficult for young children.

Yes, I'm afraid I did! It's normally on when I'm in the car on the way to doing some choral singing. It's such a mixed bag. SM-P clearly knows her stuff (about choral and contemporary music), and the musical content is often very worthwhile, but all too often both the content of the script and its delivery (Blairdemotic glottals and all) are so patronising that I have to switch off simply to avoid road rage.

Tricky one. I'd place that as a minor public school/Girls' Public Day School Trust thing, but I may be wrong.

One thing's for sure: it's bloody annoying.
