Here's a foretaste of Solus ad Victimam. A poignant piece for Holy Week.

No, will be working sadly but something to look forward to.

Must admit I don't know the Leighton!

We are singing the Leighton on Good Friday. It can be found in 'Anthems for Choirs 1'.

On an unrelated note, I do miss the Passiontide service from St John's College Cambridge that used to be broadcast on Radio 3. It hasn't been broadcast for a couple of years at least now, and it's not on St John's own website.

On another unrelated note, Leighton's Crucifixus Pro Nobis for tenor soloist and choir is a wonderful piece for Passiontide. It's quite difficult, but ends with the lovely Drop, drop slow tears, often done separately,.

Well, in that case can I recommend the ongoing daily live services from St Thomas Fifth Avenue NYC. e.g. On Wednesday 23rd March, Tenebraw service with mostly plainsong but finishing with Allegri Miserere.

If possible, why not enjoy one live at a local cathedral/college/church?

Yes, indeed, such as the London (Brompton) Oratory -

18.30, Wednesday 23rd March: Tenebrae in Coena Domini

                          TENEBRAE:
                          Responsories Victoria.
                          Benedictus Tone 1 Handl.
                          Christus factus est F. Anerio.

I am looking forward to hearing Leighton's fine Solus ad victimam on replay, if I have time.

My local church is one of the fortunate few to have choral Holy Week services - I am singing in them. But as this is a forum for discussing Radio 3, it's reasonable to comment on what is and isn't programmed there?

Since when did threads on here stick to the original topic?

On a personal note I'm not one for waxing lyrical about said choir in NYC, but that's a personal opinion (and also off the topic of Chelmsford - I bet they have a good selection of music this week. Just sayin'.)
