Returning to the main thrust of this thread (and I plead guilty to going off topic) may I mention that the latest edition of Choir and Organ has tributes to John Scott by:

    David Hill
    Gillian Weir
    Andrew Lucas
Fr Mead (Rector emeritus of St Thomas, Fifth Avenue)
    Phillip Moore

Yet are capable of 'honing in' on straight, perfectly tuned triads at cadence points.
Did you put 'honing in' in inverted commas because you know it's wrong, ardcarp?

      From the Guardian style guide:
      'home in on
not hone in on, which suggests you need to hone your writing skills'

This really is some of the finest ensemble singing I've ever heard. Further from our dear old Anglican stuff it would be hard to get. The Collegium Vocale Ghent have fine solo voices and here they use them, with expressive vibrato at times. Yet are capable of 'homing in' on straight, perfectly tuned triads at cadence points. I was really blown away by their performance under Herrewgher, all underscored by a subtle lute doubling from Tom Dunford. Really worth a listen if you haven't already.
I love Collegium Vocale Ghent! Very much like my own regular choir, the London Oratory Senior Choir - controlled fervour! Their Monteverdi mass recording is exquisite.

It's taken me years to become a decent pedant. I found it to be a very steep learning kerb (sic).
